Mpumalanga Black Aces are joint top of the Absa Premiership standings after beating bottom side Maritzburg United 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

In Clive Barker’s first match in charge of the Team of Choice, Ashley Hartog had given the visitors a surprise lead on the half-hour mark, smashing into the back of the net from clse range after Shuaib Walters could only parry a shot.

However, BhongolethuJayiya levelled five minutes before the interval with a beautiful curling effort after being played in by Collins Mbesuma.

‘Ntofontofo’ then gave Aces the lead two minutes later, heading home unmarked from six yards out after Maritzburg failed to clear their lines.

Mbesuma made it 3-1 on the hour-mark after converting from the spot, and Dennis Masina put the icing on the cake with a goal in injury time.

The win sees Aces move up to second spot, behind Platinum Stars on goals scored, while the Team of Choice continue their struggles at the bottom – they have one point from six games.
